Bulla Gastrobar: My Latest Dining Obsession

When I was asked to visit Bulla Gastrobar, a fun and casual gathering place known for their tapas, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. I don’t drink, and always assumed if one was eating tapas (defined as, “small Spanish savory dishes, typically seved with drinks at a bar), they would be  drinking alcohol too. Well, yes, you could drink alcohol, but even if you don’t, it most certainly doesn’t change the dining experience in the least.

I gathered a few of my girlfriends and headed to their Legacy West location in Plano, TX and it was an unforgettable experience for my first tapas exploration. A fun evening for all!

Take a peak at all the delectable food served to us by Bulla Gastrobar’s Executive Chef, John Sumner. Spanish food has become a new love of mine and Chef John’s impeccable talent of marrying savory ingredients with their own distinct flavors to create a melody of mouthwatering tastes is nothing less than addictive.

Patatas Bravas

We started off with their Patatas Bravas which were crispy potato cubes served with a spicy brown sauce and aioli - I could have eaten the whole dish by myself and been completely content for the evening. It was that good! Sorry folks, I can’t help myself - I love carbs.

Tartar de Atún

We were then presented with light, yet flavorful Tartar De Atun with homemade shells and a smooth aioli that enhanced the flavor of the tuna. The light touch of the soy sesame vinaigrette gave the tuna a subtle sweetness that complimented the savory taste of the aoli.

Roasted Oysters

The Roasted Oysters that followed were drizzled with the most delicious lemon garlic butter and for a girl who usually doesn’t dig oysters, I couldn’t get enough.

Paella

Of course, you can’t go to a Spanish restaurant and not experience their paella! Delicious saffron infused rice with calamari, prawns, clams, shrimp and red sofrito made this dish the star of the show in not only presentation, but also in taste.

Churrasco Moruno

By now, you would think it or I would stop. Nope. Chef John rolled out the Bulla Gastrobar’s Churrasco Moruno, a cumin marinated skirt steak with mojo verde, peppercorn sauce and a light and delicious sweet potato terrine which was like eating a dessert. This steak loving girl was in heaven with the flavors in this dish! I could probably put the mojo verde on everything I eat it was so delicious!

Churros con Chocolate

To end the evening, we were treated to their Churros con Chocolate - a fried dough accompanied by a chocolate sauce and a dulce de leche sauce. A perfect end to a perfect evening of delicious array of dishes.

I can’t wait to go back to Bulla Gastrobar - I think this will be one of my favorites for date night or for lunch meetings. I plan to have some of my work lunches here - the ambiance is perfect for meetings with clients and colleagues (a great excuse for a visit).

They have several locations in Florida, a location in Atlanta, Plano, and their newest location in Charlotte just opened recently. Try it - you won’t be disappointed.

If you have visited or plan to visit one of the Bulla Gastrobar's locations, let me know what you think!
